Our Jess finds the right path to health | Eastern Shore Sun

JESS Webb of Howrah is just 26 years old but already has a wealth of experience when it comes to health and exercise.

As an exercise physiologist, (EP) who now runs her own clinic, Your Path to Health, she is one of few Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA)-registered EP on the Eastern Shore to be able to provide a range of services that cover exercise for both healthy clients, and those who may be suffering from a disease, illness, or need rehabilitation.

Jess Webb from Your Path to Health with regular gym goer, Mary Carson of Cremorne.

What is an exercise physiologist you may well ask??? EPs are university-trained, health and fitness professionals.? They specialise in exercise-based services for both healthy people and those who may be suffering from chronic disease or injury.

Jess has always had a passion for health and fitness even as a young(er) girl at school, Clarence High and Rosny College.

?Healthy eating and fitness were always part of my life.? I also loved sport at school and college and tried out in every sport from gymnastics through to softball and basketball, so this was always important to me,? Jess said.

She graduated with an honours degree in Bachelor of Human Movement and is currently studying for her masters? degree.

Jess said EPs have a broader knowledge of the disease process and can help in managing exercise and nutrition regimes with their clients and in consultation with the medical profession.

?We are there to help in the treatment options working with GPs and specialists to ensure that our clients get the best help in their rehabilitation,? Jess said.

?I work with the medical profession to ensure we understand what our clients are being treated for, their medications, and that the exercise and rehabilitation programs are complementary to their overall treatment.?

Jess has been working as an EP for about four and a half years and has her offices within Oceana Health and Fitness at Mornington.

While opportunities for EPs some years ago were difficult, there is now a greater understanding of what they do and how they can help in health, fitness and disease /injury management.? They have strong relationships with the medical profession and help with workers compensation cases and through MAIB.

Jess said that she had always wanted to focus on rehabilitation because her passion was to help people.

?It?s great to work with people from all walks of life to see them reach their goals and help them manage their health and fitness issues.? We develop a plan after a lengthy consultation that helps us understand the issues, both physical and psychological. From this consultation we develop an appropriate fitness and nutrition regime that we know is the right path to health!? she said.

Some of the major areas of health concern are in the treatment of obesity and other related diseases such as diabetes that impact on lifestyle and good health, and problems associated with a more sedentary life (office work) such as heart disease, back pain and arthritis.? Her client base covers all demographics from younger people through to older age groups, both men and women.

Clients come direct to Your Path to Health or are referred by GPs. GP referrals are covered by Medicare.

?It is amazing what a well-established, regular exercise and nutrition regime can do in helping with illness and rehabilitation, and in fact, just plain fitness,? Jess said.

?In any exercise program it is important that you enjoy it and feel the benefits of what you are doing and that is our aim.? Working with a professional to helps to achieve that end,? Jess said.

If need help on your health and fitness program, regardless of whether you have any underlying health or rehabilitation issues, contact Jess at Your Path to Health on 0438 065 931.
